La finalidad de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es ahondar en el tormentoso reinado de Juan II de Castilla (1419-1454) y ofrecer una visión renovada del mismo. Este periodo estuvo caracterizado por el faccionalismo cortesano, la inestabilidad política y la privanza de Álvaro de Luna. A pesar de ello, se analizará cómo, frente a la visión tradicional, se produjo un fortalecimiento del poder regio y de la concepción absolutista del mismo, encarnada en la idea del poderío real absoluto, que permitieron la consolidación del estado moderno y que hicieron del reinado de Juan II un periodo fundamental para la historia del siglo XV en Castilla.
This dissertation discusses the conflictive reign of John II Castile (1419-1454) in order to offer a renewed view of it. This period was characterised by courtly factionalism, political instability and the powerful position achieved by Álvaro de Luna, the royal favourite. Nevertheless, it will be analysed how, instead of the traditional view which depicted John II as a weak monarch, royal power was strengthened during his rule. The idea of ‘poderío real absoluto’ embodies the development of the increasingly absolutist conceptualisation of royal power. These changes proved fundamental in the consolidation of the Modern State making the reign of John II a key period in the history of 15th century in Castile.
