La gradación del adjetivo en las Siete Partidas de Alfonso X el Sabio

Abstract

No todos los adjetivos expresan una cualidad, pero los adjetivos denominados calificativos, es decir, aquellos que hacen referencia a una característica o defecto, pueden expresarla en mayor o en menor grado y compararse con otros. El adjetivo en el español actual presenta tres grados: el positivo, el comparativo, que puede ser de igualdad, inferioridad o superioridad y el superlativo, que, asimismo, puede ser de dos tipos: absoluto o relativo.

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo conocer cómo era esta estructura gramatical en el documento jurídico de las Siete Partidas del rey Alfonso X, apodado «el Sabio». Para ello, se hará un recorrido histórico, teniendo como punto de partida cómo es el adjetivo en la lengua actual, para, después, acudir al latín y, posteriormente, a la Edad Media y a las primeras evoluciones del castellano antiguo.

Not all adjectives express a quality, but the so-called qualifying adjectives, that is, those that refer to a characteristic or defect, can express it to a greater or lesser degree and be compared with others. The adjective in current Spanish has three degrees: the positive, the comparative, wich can be equal, inferior or superior, and the superlative, wich can also be of two types: absolute or relative.

The present work aims to know how this grammatical structure was in the legal document of the Siete Partidas of King Alfonso X, nicknamed the Wise. To do this, a historical journey will be made, having as a starting point that the adjective is like in the current language, to then go to Latin and, later, to the Middle Ages and the first evolutions of old Castilian.
