Abstract

The tradition of the hermitage of Our Lady of Grace dates back to the cult of the Virgin of Grace at the end of the Middle Ages. The sanctuary, however, dates from the 17th century and the first source about the appearance of the Virgin to the shepherd Francisco Garcia is a painted table from the 18th century. Legend and tradition endorse an economic and social context that has been already produced and must be legitimized. The cult in this sanctuary, which is of a regional interest, developed around important livestock fairs, now disappeared, although the devotional icon remains popular until nowadays.
