La Sibila y sus oráculos en Clemente de Alejandría

Abstract

En el contexto de los siglos II y III el cristianismo había pasado de ser perseguido y condenado a ser cada vez más aceptado por la sociedad, especialmente por las clases altas. En este escenario, eruditos e intelectuales aspirarán a elaborar a partir de las fuentes paganas un espacio común que permita atraer al mundo griego a la nueva religión cristiana. Numerosos personajes del mundo griego serán asimilados por los autores cristianos y adaptados a esta religión mediante su reinterpretación. Este trabajo se centra concretamente en el estudio de la figura de la Sibila, profetisa pagana muy admirada en la Antigüedad, dentro de la obra de uno de los Padres de la Iglesia, Clemente de Alejandría. Para un estudio completo, se abordarán los distintos oráculos atribuidos a este personaje dentro de la obra de Clemente, centrándonos en la interpretación que, en clave cristiana, hace de la profetisa y de sus vaticinios. Para ello, se extraerán y comentarán las diferentes menciones a la Sibila y los pasajes concretos de los Oráculos Sibilinos que aparecen en el Pedagogo, el Protréptico y Stromata.

In the context of II and III century christianism had come from being chases and condemned, to being more and more accepted by society, specially by the upper class. In this stadium, the intellectuals and erudite people will aspire to elaborate from pagan sources and characters a common space that would attract the Greek world to the Christian religion. Several characters from the greek world will be assimilated by the christian authors and will be adapted to this religion by their reinterpretation. This work is centered concretely on the study of the Sibyl, pagan prophetess quite admired in the ancient world, in one of the church’s father’s work, Clemens of Alexandria. For a more complete study, we will address the different oracles, attributed to this character in Clemens’s work, focusing on the interpretation that he does, form a Christian perspective, of the prophetess and her prophecies. For that we will extract and study the different quotations to the Sibyl and the exact passages from the Sibylline Oracles that appear in the Pedagogue, the Protrepticus and Stromata.
