El propósito de este trabajo es el estudio de la figura de Arria la Mayor en Plinio el Joven (epist. 3, 16). Para ello, tras señalar las características del epistolario pliniano contraponiéndolo al de sus precursores en el cultivo del género (Cicerón y Séneca), se analiza la presencia de las mujeres en dicho epistolario antes de pasar a la traducción y comentario de la epístola 3, 16, a fin de entender mejor el protagonismo que el autor confiere a Arria y su imagen como ejemplo de mujer que encarna los valores propios del vir romano.
The aim of this project is the study of the leading figure Arria the Elder in the work of Pliny the Younger (epist. 3,16). To this effect, after highlighting the features of Pliny’s letters by comparing it to Cicero’s and Seneca’s, previous authors in the development of this genre, the presence of women in those letters is analyzed, before addressing the translation and text commentary of letter 3,16, with the purpose of getting a better understanding of the prominent role that the writer gives Arria and her image as a female exempla that embodies the characteristic values of Roman vir.
