El final del condestable: justicia, ritual y memoria en torno a Álvaro de Luna

Abstract

Este trabajo estudia el final de la vida del condestable Álvaro de Luna, privado de Juan II, ya que desde la historiografía no se ha prestado tanta atención, de forma específica, a sus últimos momentos. Se analiza la trayectoria del privado, sobre todo entre 1445 y su muerte, teniendo en cuenta la perspectiva de la nueva historia política. A través de bibliografía especializada y diferentes fuentes del siglo XV, se observan las causas que llevaron al declive y caída de Luna. Se abordan su relación con la alta nobleza, el papel de la reina y el progresivo deterioro de su relación personal con el rey. Asimismo, se presta atención al proceso judicial realizado contra él y su ejecución pública, cuyo carácter simbólico como representación es subrayado. Por último, se expone la creación de una memoria inmediatamente posterior a su muerte mediante distintas formas de expresión, literarias y artísticas.

This work studies the end of the life of Constable Álvaro de Luna, Juan II’s favourite, since historiography has not paid much attention, specifically, to his last moments. We analyse the favourite's trajectory, especially between 1445 and his death, considering the perspective of the new political history. Through specialised bibliography and different sources from the 15th century, the causes that led to Luna's decline and fall are observed. It deals with his relationship with the high nobility, the role of the queen and the progressive deterioration of his personal relationship with the king. Attention is also paid to the judicial process carried out against him and his public execution, whose symbolic character as a representation is emphasised. Finally, the creation of a memory immediately after his death through various forms of literary and artistic expression is discussed.
