La vajilla de vidrio durante la antigüedad tardía en el "Conventus Carthaginiensis"

Abstract

El estudio del recipiente de vidrio en la zona oriental del Conventus Carthaginiensis evidencia la profunda transformación que sufre esta industria a partir del siglo IV d.C. Desde ese momento, la vajilla de vidrio va a reducir su número de tipos, caracterizados por una gran homogeneidad tanto formal como técnica. Se trata de recipientes elaborados por medio del soplado, principalmente en talleres occidentales, que muestran una coloración que varia entre el tono verde oscuro o verdeamarillento y que se mantendrán durante la centuria siguiente. Esta vajilla muestra dos tendencias, por un lado un servicio básico y corriente, por otro, unos pocos artículos más refinados, destinados a una clase social con mayor poder adquisitivo. Sin embargo, en el siglo VI d.C. se impone un nuevo repertorio, cada vez más limitado y funcional que ofrece una calidad muy mediocre, sin duda por su elaboración en pequeños talleres locales que están utilizando de forma habitual el vidrio reciclado, y que perdurará, apenas sin cambios, hasta el siglo VII d.C.

The study of the glass vessels in eastern Conventus Carthaginiensis evidence the profound transformation that the industry suffers from the fourth century AD. Since then, the glass tableware will reduce the number of types, characterized by high homogeneity both formal and technical. These containers made of blowing, mainly in western workshops, which show a coloration that varies from dark green or yellow green and is maintained during the following century, forming a plate showing two trends, first running a basic service and, secondly, a few items more refined for a class with higher purchasing power. However, in the sixth century AD, imposing a new code, increasingly limited and functional, offering a very poor quality, no doubt for its preparation in small local workshops are routinely using recycled glass, and that will remain, barely changes, until seventh century AD.
