The second half of the XIVth century witnessed several dynastic crises. In Castile the Trastamara gained access to power after a civil war that ended in 1369. In Portugal there was the ascent of the Avis household after the crisis of 1383-1385. 80th political conflicts are inseparable from others of a social character within the same period: struggles between nobiliary factions, between lords and peasants, between the popular Christian masses and the Jewish minority, etc. Various means will be used to surmount difficulties: accommodation to the new dynastic situation, repression or royal mediation, creation of brotherhoods and finally, the elaboration of a legitimating discourse that presented the new dynasty as a warrant for stability.
La segunda mitad del siglo XIV conoce distintas crisis dinásticas. En Castilla suben los Trastámara al poder tras una guerra civil concluida en 1369. En Portugal ascienden los Avis tras la crisis de 1383-1385. Ambos conflictos políticos son inseparables de otros de carácter social: entre facciones nobiliarias, entre señores y campesinos, de la masa popular cristiana contra la minoría judía, etc ... Para superar las dificultades se utilizarán diversos medios: la acomodación a la nueva situación dinástica, la represión o la mediación real, la creación de hermandades y, en definitiva, la elaboración de un discurso legitimador que presenta a la nueva dinastía como garante de estabilidad.
