El artículo analiza un aspecto de la conflictividad en el ámbito marítimo castellano durante la Baja Edad Media: el de los daños producidos por las fuerzas de la naturaleza y por la mano del hombre, así como sus fórmulas de resolución, tanto públicas como privadas. Su hilo conductor es la acción de la monarquía, especialmente en los campos de la jurisdicción marítima y de la diplomacia.
Maritime conflicts and hostilities in late-medieval Castile constitute the main concern of this article, which analyzes several aspects that account for such violence and its consequences. The focus lies, on the one hand, on such damages as were produced by both natural and human agents; and on the other hand, on the diverse solutions given to these conflicts, which were articulated from private and public stances. The common leitmotiv is the actions taken by the monarchy, especially in the fields of law and diplomacy.
