El término liberta comienza a utilizarse a finales de la República en Hispania, momento en que toma una dimensión pública conforme al derecho y a las leyes, que hace de la mujer esclava una mujer libre, dotada de derechos civiles y, en cierta manera, de derechos económicos, pasando a formar parte de las clientelas del antiguo propietario. Hemos procurado analizar, a pe- sar de las dificultades, la situación jurídica, económica y social de la mujer en la sociedad hispanon-omana en la provincia Tarraconense.
