AB The aim of this dissertation is the analysis of the way in which Maya Angelou illustratesthe condition of black women in 20th century American society in her autobiography.The autobiography is composed of 7 volumes but I have focused my analysis on thefirst one I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings; through the evolution of Maya’s life, wecan appreciate the role of black women in society, the question of black identity and theinfluence other women have in Maya.
