AB Fibromyalgia was recognized as a disease by the WHO and classified by the ICD- 10 in 1992 and the International Association for the Study of Pain in 1994. Fibromyalgia is common. Fibromyalgia confuses. Fibromyalgia dislikes.Its clinic is summarized in one sentence: Everything hurts.The current absence of specific demonstrable organic disease, the lack of an objective confirmatory diagnostic test, the frequent relationship with psychopathological problems and the important impact on healthcare resources result in/lead to conflictive situations and discussions and scientific controversies.2010 criteria of the AmericanCollege of Rheumatology, still pending validation, are used for clinical diagnosis with an index of pain extension and a severity scale.Some authors make a proposal for classification, which facilitates intervention, in 4 types: type I idiopathic, type II chronic autoimmune or rheumatic disease related, type III secondary to psychiatric illness and type IV malingering, together with their relationship or not with certain psychopathological profiles.The professional intervention must help in the process of adaptation to the disease.It is necessary to rule out or identify other diseases or comorbilities; to assess the limitation or interference with quality of life; to relieve physical symptoms, including psychological support, sleep hygiene, physical exercise; to identify aggravating factors and attenuators; reduce uncertainty and provide the person the opportunity to know the disease; encouraging the manifestation of fears, doubts and feelings as well as the needs; to identify all the available resources (personal, family and social), reinforce and expand them and prevent family claudication.
