AB Interventions historic brick buildings require an exhaustive analysis of the current characteristicsof the bricks, in order to establish the role that these elements maintain in the buildings. This studypresents the result of an experimental analysis for the compressive strength of brick specimensextracted from different buildings built in the 19th and 20th centuries in the province of Zamora(Spain). specimens with very different characteristics are analysed, allowing comparisons betweenbrickworks and manufacturing processes. The obtained resistance values are related to the result ofa macroscopic and microscopic analysis of the material, which classifies the pieces into four groups,and to the results of the study of the density, absorption and open porosity of the samples. Thecompressive strength results show high variation between brick specimens and in-between thesamples extracted from the same brick. A correlation between the of resistance and open porosityvalues, with less dispersion in the case of high sintering level is observed. Finally, the compliancewith the current rules respect to their carrying capacity is checked.
