One of the most famous and best-selling English authors of detective fiction was Agatha Christie (1890-1976), widely known as “The Queen of Crime and Mystery”. Christie did not only introduce male detectives in her novels and short stories but also females. But, to what extent have these characters of female detectives been studied and analyzed? This paper is mainly focused on an analysis of Christie´s female characters in the novels The Murder At The Vicarage (1929), The Seven Dials Mystery (1930) and N or M (1941). An analysis of Christie´s Miss Marple, Bundle Brent and Tuppence Beresford, not only as female detectives but as archetypes of detective fiction as well, will be provided. Fur- thermore, the paper will contain a comparison between the three female detectives, their different personalities in the novels and their different detection methods, both profes- sional and amateur.
