El impacto psicológico de la migración: El duelo migratorio en mujeres africanas

Abstract

Las migraciones internacionales han empezado a ser consideradas vectores del desarrollo económico y sociocultural, atrayendo el interés de acciones positivas encaminadas a potenciar sus beneficios. El presente estudio aborda el estado actual de las migraciones y la perspectiva de género en su estudio, poniendo de relieve el impacto psicológico y los determinantes sociales de la salud en la migración. El duelo migratorio es el concepto empleado para describir las múltiples pérdidas y separaciones que supone la migración y la adaptación a la nueva sociedad. En este estudio se considera el duelo migratorio en la mujer. La parte empírica de este trabajo corresponde al estudio cualitativo realizado en Asturias, con cinco mujeres procedentes de tres países de África en el que se exploran, a través de sus narrativas, aspectos sobre la vivencia del duelo migratorio y de su adaptación a la nueva cultura. Los resultados de la investigación apuntan a una adecuada elaboración del duelo en las mujeres con más apoyo social y discursos en los que reflejan empoderamiento y cambios en las relaciones de género. En las conclusiones se reflejan la necesidad de emplear el género como concepto central en la investigación sobre migraciones y actuar para reducir las inequidades en la salud, respecto al duelo migratorio se considera su potencial como herramienta para la sensibilización, y a las mujeres migrantes como agentes de cambio social y de desarrollo en sus comunidades.

International migrations have begun to be considered as vectors of economic and sociocultural development, attracting the interest of positive actions in order to increase their benefits. The present study addresses the current state of migrations and the gender perspective in their study, highlighting the psychological impact and social determinants of health in migration. Migratory grief is the concept used to describe the multiple losses and separations that migration and adaptation to a new society means. In this study migratory grief in women is considered. The empirical part of this study answer to a qualitative study carried out in Asturias, with five women from three African countries, exploring through their narratives, aspects about the experience of migratory grief and its adaptation to the new culture. The results of the research point to an adequate elaboration of the grief in women with more social support, and discourses in which they reflect empowerment and changes in gender relations. The conclusions reflect the need to use gender as a central concept in research on migration and acting to reduce inequities in health. About migrant grief, its potential as a tool for sensitization is considered, and migrant women as agents of social change and development in their communities.
