La romería castellana: entre la religiosidad popular y la apariencia cotidiana barroca e ilustrada

Abstract

Tras el Concilio de Trento se fraguaron dos formas de entender la religiosidad que abarcan los siglos XVII y XVIII, la barroca y la ilustrada. A través de este análisis se pretende entender la relación de las gentes humildes de Castilla con una expresión de religiosidad popular que desborda el Templo y sale a la calle como forma de auxilio y de comunitarismo social. La colectivización de las mentalidades logra sintonizar en un único calendario las vicisitudes de la vida cotidiana y la fascinación por lo sagrado en una nueva forma de teatro barroco: la romería.

After the Council of Trent, two ways of understanding religiosity were forged that span the 17th and 18th centuries, the Baroque and the Enlightenment. Through this analysis it is intended to understand the relationship of the humble people of Castile with an expression of popular religiosity that overflows the Temple and goes out into the streets as a form of aid and social communitarianism. The collectivization of mentalities manages to tune into a single calendar the vicissitudes of daily life and the fascination with the sacred in a new form of baroque theater: the pilgrimage.
