La arquitectura como herramienta para mejorar el mundo: Francis Kéré

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza la obra del arquitecto Diébédo Francis Kéré, su biografía y como su historia ha influido notablemente en su arquitectura. Primeramente, se estudia el marco social africano y se obtienen las características de la arquitectura social. Para entender su arquitectura se han elegido cuatro de sus obras principales: la escuela, la biblioteca y las viviendas de los profesores de Gando, su ciudad natal; y el Centro de Salud de Laongo. Estos edificios han marcado un antes y un despúes en la arquitectura de África, siendo Kéré el primer africano con un premio Pritzker. Con este trabajo se pone en valor su arquitectura, entendiendo su punto de vista y como su construcción está hecha por y para las personas.

This paper analyzes the work of the architect Diébédo Francis Kéré, his biography and how his history has significantly influenced his architecture. First, the African social framework is studied and the characteristics of social architecture are obtained. In order to understand his architecture, four of his main works have been chosen: the school, the library and the teachers’ housing in Gando, his hometown, and the Laongo Health Center. These buildings have marked a before and after in African architecture, Kéré being the first African with a Pritzker Prize. This work highlights his architecture, understanding his point of view and how his construction is made by and for people.
