El papel de la prensa taurina durante la Guerra Civil española: el papel de ABC

Abstract

La evolución y transformación de la prensa taurina a lo largo de los periplos históricos de España desembocan en un análisis y estudio de sus características, atendiendo a las peculiaridades propias de cada época concreta. El presente estudio se fundamenta en la revisión de las informaciones taurinas publicadas en el diario ABC durante el conflicto bélico más reciente entre la población española: la Guerra Civil acaecida entre 1936-1939, teniendo en cuenta que dicho diario contó, desde julio de 1936, con dos líneas editoriales completamente diferentes bajo la misma cabecera: por un lado, ABC de Madrid, de cariz republicano; por otro, ABC de Sevilla, afincado en la zona sublevada o franquista, así como la madrileña revista ilustrada Blanco y Negro. El objetivo principal de la investigación es comprobar la utilización de la información taurina por parte del bando nacional y republicano como símbolo de ensalzamiento y refuerzo de sus ideales. La metodología utilizada se centra en el análisis de contenido sobre la hemeroteca de ABC, un total de 773 unidades de análisis. Los resultados confirman este hecho, al observar cómo ambos ‘bandos’ emplearon las noticias relacionadas con la Fiesta Nacional como instrumento movilizador e instructor de idearios. Asimismo, y al contar al final de la Guerra Civil con más festejos la zona nacional, la prensa del ala republicana catalogó a la tauromaquia como propia de esta corriente ideológica.

The evolution and transformation of the bullfighting press throughout the historical journeys of Spain lead to an analysis and study of its characteristics, taking into account the peculiarities of each specific period. The present study is based on the review of the bullfighting information published in the newspaper ABC during the most recent war conflict between the Spanish population: the Civil War that occurred between 1936-1939, taking into account that said newspaper had, since July 1936, with two completely different editorial lines under the same heading: on the one hand, ABC de Madrid, with a republican look; on the other, ABC de Sevilla, based in the rebel or Francoist zone, as well as the Madrid illustrated magazine Blanco y Negro. The main objective of the investigation is to verify the use of bullfighting information by the national and republican side as a symbol of praise and reinforcement of their ideals. The methodology used focuses on content analysis on ABC's newspaper library, a total of 773 units of analysis. The results confirm this fact, when observing how both 'sides' used the news related to the National Holiday as a mobilizing instrument and instructor of ideologies. Likewise, and when counting at the end of the Civil War with more celebrations in the national zone, the press of the Republican wing classified bullfighting as belonging to this ideological trend.
