"El martirio de San Sebastián" de Van Dyck en el Museo de Louvre, identificado en el coleccionismo español de la galería Stanley

Abstract

Se argumenta la procedencia de una colección española para el Martirio de San Sebastián, obra de Van Dyck, que se conserva en el Museo del Louvre. Se valora la prioridad de esta pintura en la variada galería que el pintor consagra al santo en su producción. El autor estudia y analiza la pintura en el contexto de la obra juvenil del pintor, además de aportar las fuentes de inspiración y los ensayos del propio artista, en forma de dibujos y bocetos, en relación con Rubens y otros pintores, así como de la escultura clásica.

Here is being argued the provenance from the Spanish collectionism of the Martyrdom of San Sebastian, in the Louvre Museum. The painting is priority in the varied gallery devoted to the saint in the Van Dyck's production. The author studies the painting and analyses it in the context of the painter's early work. He provides also the basis of inspiration and trials through drawings and sketches in connection with Rubens and another painters, as well as with the classical Sculpture.
