Apenas se conocen noticias de pintores hispano-flamencos en el nordeste zamorano. Es segura la existencia de un grupo de artistas asentado en Benavente en los comienzos del siglo XVI que abastecía las demandas de iglesias de la zona y de particulares que encargaban obras de temática religiosa para sus fundaciones o capillas. Entre estos pintores se encuentran Cornielis de Holanda y otros anónimos, a los que se denomina "Maestro de Villafáfila" y "Maestro de Valdescorriel".
