Abstract
This chapter studies the influence of French on the specialized language of wine in Spanish. After determining the key historical moments of major influence of wine-related Gallicisms, this research objective will be analysed by means of a corpus os texts consisting of contemporary wine monographs and treaties still in use. The study will try to prove that the arrival of Gallicisms is facilitated by translation, and that those treaties and manuals originally written in Spanish take after those that have been translated from French. There are bad translations, unnecessary neologisms, and very common calques in Spanish wine technical texts. The level penetration and presence of French is so high, that it can be claimed that wine-related Spanish is almost a French-translated Spanish.
