El jardín botánico de Caracas, Venezuela: Estudio para la rehabilitación de espacio libre con valor patrimonial

Abstract

El Jardín Botánico de Caracas, posee un significativo papel como pulmón verde de la ciudad y centro de biodiversidad, declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO como parte de la Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV) en el año 2000. Sin embargo, en las últimas décadas, ha enfrentado un deterioro significativo debido a múltiples factores, como la falta de mantenimiento, problemas financieros y el panorama político. Esta situación ha comprometido tanto la integridad de sus instalaciones como la salud de las colecciones botánicas que alberga. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizarlo a profundidad, realizar un diagnóstico de su estado actual, y posteriormente plantear pautas para su rehabilitación, centrándose en la mejora de la infraestructura y servicios para sus visitantes desde una visión arquitectónica. Realizar esta investigación, sin lugar a duda, es de gran importancia, ya que puede ser tomada como punto de partida para la posible restauración del Jardín Botánico de Caracas, patrimonio natural y cultural de la ciudad.

The Botanical Garden of Caracas, plays a significant role as the city's green lung and a center of biodiversity, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as part of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in 2000. However, in recent decades, it has faced significant deterioration due to multiple factors, such as lack of maintenance, financial problems and the political landscape. This situation has compromised both the integrity of its facilities and the health of the botanical collections it houses. The present work aims to analyze it in depth, make a diagnosis of its current state, and then propose guidelines for its rehabilitation, focusing on the improvement of the infrastructure and services for its visitors from an architectural perspective. Carrying out this research, without a doubt, is of great importance, since it can be taken as a starting point for the possible restoration of the Botanical Garden of Caracas, natural and cultural heritage of the city.
