La adaptación cinematográfica. Una aproximación a través de El paciente inglés (Anthony Minghella, 1996)

Abstract

El presente Trabajo Fin de Master intenta acercarse a la problemática que desde los comienzos del cine, ha sido materia de debate entre los estudiosos de la cuestión: las relaciones entre cine y literatura. En primer lugar, expondremos las proposiciones más sobresalientes, que abarcan desde los estudios de la corriente formalista, entre los que se cuentan los análisis de Hugo Münsterberg y Sergei Eisenstein, a los representantes de la corriente realista como André Bazin o Siegfried Kracauer, pasando por los estudios de Christian Metz desde el estructuralismo y la semiología, hasta las investigaciones más recientes a cargo de José Luis Sánchez Noriega o José Antonio Pérez Bowie; y en segundo lugar, trataremos de aproximarnos al fenómeno de la adaptación cinematográfica, a través del proceso que supuso transformar la novela de Michael Ondaajte, El paciente inglés, en un largometraje y de los medios de los que su realizador, Anthony Minghella, se sirvió para realizar el trasvase.

This Master's Final Project tries to approach the problem that since the beginning of cinema has been the subject of debate among scholars of the issue: the relationship between cinema and literature. In the first place, we will expose the most outstanding propositions, which range from the studies of the formalist current, among which are the analyzes of Hugo Münsterberg and Sergei Eisenstein, to the representatives of the realist current such as André Bazin or Siegfried Kracauer, going through the studies of Christian Metz from structuralism and semiology, to the most recent investigations by José Luis Sánchez Noriega or José Antonio Pérez Bowie; and secondly, we will try to approach the phenomenon of film adaptation, through the process that involved transforming Michael Ondaajte's novel, The English Patient, into a feature film and the means that its director, Anthony Minghella, used to carry out the transfer.
