Portugal es un país con tradición subtituladora, frente a sus vecinos europeos en los que la práctica habitual es el doblaje. La presente investigación se propone estudiar qué políticas se siguen para la subtitulación de los productos audiovisuales multilingües en países subtituladores como éste, frente a las políticas seguidas en países dobladores. Para ello, se ha llevado a cabo un análisis comparativo del subtitulado de dos películas multilingües: Casse-téte chinois (Klapisch, 2013) y The Red Violin (Girard, 1998), realizado en dos países con tradición de doblaje (Francia y Alemania) y el realizado en un país con tradición de subtitulado (Portugal), así como entrevistado a subtituladores profesionales de los dos ámbitos respecto al procedimiento seguido para la subtitulación de este fenómeno lingüístico.
Multilingualism and third language in fiction. The subtitling of multilingual works and how it varies according to the distribution context
Portugal is a country with a subtitling tradition, compared to its European neighbours where dubbing is the usual practice. The purpose of this research is to study the policies followed for the subtitling of multilingual audiovisual products in subtitling countries such as this one, as opposed to the policies followed in dubbing countries. To this end, a comparative analysis of the subtitling of two multilingual films was carried out: Casse-téte chinois (2013) and The Red Violin (1998). It has been compared the subtitling performed in two countries with a dubbing tradition (France and Germany) and that performed in a country with a subtitling tradition (Portugal). In a second part of the study, professional subtitlers from both areas were interviewed as well, regarding the procedure followed for subtitling this linguistic phenomenon.
